Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

PlateWise plans meals against your grocery budget. To do that it needs a small amount of information about you. This page explains exactly what is stored, why, who else sees it, and how to get rid of it.

What We Collect

We collect only what the product needs to function:

  • • Account: Your email address and a hashed password, used to sign you in.
  • • Body details: Age, biological sex, height and weight — used solely to calculate your daily calorie and protein targets. You may also set those targets directly instead.
  • • Food preferences: Weekly budget, grocery store, diet type, allergies, dislikes, cupboard staples, and household members you add.
  • • Generated content: The meal plans and shopping lists we create for you, kept so you can look back at previous weeks.
  • • Usage records: A count of how often you generate plans, used to enforce fair-use limits and control our costs.
  • • Approximate location, only if you ask for it: On the Eating Out page you can either tap “Find places near me”, which shares your browser's coordinates for that single lookup, or type a ZIP code or address yourself. Either way we use it to search for nearby restaurants and then discard it. We do not store your location or address, log it, or build any history of where you have been. The feature is entirely optional, and nothing else in the app uses location.

We do not directly collect or store your credit card or payment details. If we introduce paid features, all payments will be securely handled by third-party payment processors (such as Apple, Google, or Stripe), and we may receive limited information such as your subscription status. We do not collect your home address or phone number, and we do not track you across other websites.

How We Use Your Email

We use your email address only for account authentication, password resets, important service notifications, and responding to support requests. We do not use it for marketing or share it with advertisers.

Cookies And Local Storage

PlateWise uses essential cookies or local browser storage to keep you signed in and remember your session. These are required for the app to function and are not used for advertising or cross-site tracking.

Analytics

We do not use analytics services that track your activity across other apps or websites. Because we do not track you across third-party sites or sell your data, PlateWise does not alter its behavior in response to “Do Not Track” (DNT) or Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signals.

We do not track your location in the background or over time. The only location use is the one-off lookup described above, which happens solely when you tap the button and is never retained.

Why We Collect It

Every field above feeds directly into producing your meal plan. We do not sell your data, rent it, or share it with advertisers. PlateWise carries no advertising, and food brands cannot pay us for placement or for a better product grade.

Who Else Processes It

Running the service means a few third parties handle data on our behalf:

  • • Supabase: Stores your account and app data, and handles sign-in.
  • • Vercel: Hosts the application and serves it to your browser.
  • • Anthropic: Generates meal plans. Your preferences (budget, diet, allergies, targets) are sent to produce a plan. Your email and password are never sent, and under Anthropic's commercial API terms your data is not used to train their AI models.
  • • Open Food Facts: An open product database we query for ingredient lists. We send the name of a grocery item, never anything about you.
  • • OpenStreetMap (Overpass and Nominatim): Only when you use the nearby-places feature. We send either the coordinates your browser provided or the address you typed, in order to find your position and retrieve nearby restaurants. No account identifier is sent with the request, so the lookup is not linked to you.

Each processes data under its own privacy terms. We share the minimum each one needs.

How Long We Keep It

Meal plans are archived over time rather than deleted so your history remains available to you while your account is active. If you request account deletion, they are permanently erased. Usage records are short-lived and used only for rate limiting.

Deleting Your Data

To delete your account and everything attached to it, including any archived meal plans, email plate.wise@outlook.com from your account address (and, where an in-app deletion option is available under Settings, you can use that). We aim to action requests within 30 days.

You may also request a copy of your data, or ask us to correct anything inaccurate. Most of it you can edit yourself on the profile page at any time.

Your Rights And Legal Disclosures

US State Privacy Rights: Depending on the US state you live in (such as California, Virginia, Colorado, or others), you may have specific rights regarding your personal information under state law. These include the right to request access to, deletion of, or correction of your data, as well as the right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information. Because PlateWise does not sell your data or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, we already honor these protections for all US users by default. To exercise any state-specific rights, please contact us at plate.wise@outlook.com.

Business Transfers: If PlateWise is involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, your personal data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via the app before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, protect our rights or property, or ensure the personal safety of our users.

Security

Data is stored with Supabase and protected by row-level security, meaning each account can only ever read its own records. Traffic is encrypted in transit. No system is perfect, and we will not claim otherwise — but we collect little, and what we hold is low-sensitivity by design.

Medical Disclaimer

PlateWise provides meal-planning recommendations for informational purposes only and is not a substitute for medical or nutritional advice from a qualified professional. Meal plans are generated with the assistance of AI and may occasionally contain errors. Review meal plans and ingredient information — and always check physical product labels if you have an allergy — before relying on them.

Children

PlateWise is intended for adults 18 and older, and is not directed at anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data, contact us at plate.wise@outlook.com and we will delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we will update the date above and, where the change affects how your data is used, notify you in the app.
